Brutal. That is the best way to describe the latest injury update out of San Francisco.
Jason Verrett suffered a torn achilles tendon during practice on Wednesday according to the 49ers and will be out for the season.
The team announced today that CB Jason Verrett tore his achilles tendon in practice yesterday and is out for the season.

Verrett was in the process of working his way back from a torn ACL suffered in week one of last season against Detroit. The veteran cornerback started 2022 on the Physically Unable to Perform list and returned to practice on October 6th.
The veteran cornerback had been looking good during recent practices and was expected to rejoin the lineup on Sunday night when San Francisco takes on the Chargers at Levi’s Stadium.
This is the fourth major injury suffered by Verrett in his career. He tore the ACL in his left knee in 2016 followed in 2018 by a torn left achilles. He has now repeated the same pattern on the other side with a torn ACL in his left knee in 2021 and torn right achilles yesterday.
After losing Emmanuel Moseley during a week five win at Carolina, the 49ers were looking forward to Verrett’s return.
Now the 49ers secondary will likely go back to the lineup they had been using during recent weeks.
Expect to see Charvarius Ward and Deommodore Lenoir as the starting outside cornerbacks with Jimmie Ward in the slot. Tashaun Gipson and Talanoa Hufanga will man the safety spots in this scenario.
Depth behind the starters would consist of Ambry Thomas, Samuel Womack III, Dontae Johnson, and Ka’Dar Hollman at cornerback. George Odum and Tarvarious Moore will serve as the backup safeties.
Despite the injuries to Moseley and Verrett, the 49ers secondary has been solid this season. In their last outing, they held Matthew Stafford to only 187 yards passing.
The 49ers pass defense has been solid this year. Aside from their blowout loss to Kansas City, San Francisco has allowed only 5.4 yards per pass attempt.
